Every year there are certain numbers of H1-B visas that are available for internationals. As of H1B visa 2011 quota, they were 65,000 visas for veritable quota and 20,000 for advanced degree holders. 65,000 is called general H1B visa cap and 20,000 is called master H1B cap. This year the H1B via will start in April 1, 2011 and the received visa requests are counted and added to that numeral restriction. If the USCIS receives 10,000 petitions on very first day of filing for general quota then the general quota cap count is 10,000 until that day. In the last financial year H1V Visa cap bolted after 10 months and a year before it claimed 9 months for H1B Visa cap to replete. Cap-free and transfers have no quota restrictions, and no set time date or period for registration (there is an infinite number that can be registered any time in the year) for 2011, the H1B quota assignation remains the same at a total 85,000 visas available. Each year US companies can start lodging H1B visas from April 1st onwards for International masters and students that they enroll and hire in January, February and March. Any H1B visas that persist can continue to be filed for until the annual quota allocation has been made full. Because there is a mere quota system (limited availability) , many of the general and largest H1B employers always start enrolling and selecting in January which removes traditional sponsorship dangers, allows enough time to find and sponsor the best nominees, and be devised and ready to file early which always helps to assure they get supplied visas.
